Additional Information

Dr. Nespory was born in Richmond, MO.  He graduated high school from Liberty, MO, in 1978.  He has a BS degree in Zoology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO, where he also played football.  He attended medical school at the University of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, MO, graduating in 1987.  He completed his general surgery residency and a vascular surgery fellowship in Columbus, OH.  He became board certified in both general and vascular surgery in 1995. Dr. Nespory received the honorary distinction of Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in 2002.

Dr. Nespory is well versed in open, laparoscopic and now robotic assisted surgery.  He began his practice in Joplin, MO, in 1993, working as a general surgeon & trauma surgeon at three different hospitals.  In 2003, however, he found an opportunity to come back to Liberty and returned home.

Dr. Nespory performs a wide variety of surgery on both adults and children.  He recently completed his 800th (and counting) da Vinci assisted surgery in January 2020.  Dr. Nespory is one of the top robotic general surgeons in the metro having done more robotic general surgeries than anyone in Kansas City, MO.

Initially skeptic of the robotic surgeries he became fully vested when patients were so happy with surgical results. They were not having pain and taking considerably less pain meds.  Obese and elderly patients do extremely well postoperatively, some not taking any pain meds at all.  With a dedicated surgery team including his wife, Sheryl, a certified RN first assistant, they have streamlined the surgeries to taking less time than open procedures.  This results in less anesthesia being given and quicker return to normal daily life without pain.  Dr. Nespory also believes highly in the robotic approach due to the impressive camera which allows him to view anatomy with ten times (10X) the magnification, all in 3D.  This vision enables him to do more complex dissecting quicker all while still using very small incisions.

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System® allows the surgeon to have full control of all the instruments and the camera during the procedure which allows him to focus more intently on the procedure rather than directing his assistants.  He can also repair multiple hernias in different spots at the same time on the same patient without making additional incisions.

Dr. Nespory’s flexible schedule allows patients quicker access for appointments and elective procedures.  Often, patients can be scheduled for surgery within days of their initial consultation.  When the Da Vinci is used, the surgery time is shortened; recovery is quicker with less pain noted and less need for post-operative narcotics.  Patients are generally very impressed with the outcomes after robotic surgery.

You will find Dr. Nespory is now operating exclusively at Excelsior Springs Hospital in Excelsior Springs, MO, where he has been on staff since 2004.

The Excelsior Springs Hospital Administration and Board of Trustees led by Kristen DeHart, CEO, purchased a da Vinci Xi Surgical System® in July 2019.  It is just the beginning of the growth and new technology that is arriving at Excelsior Springs Hospital, that will benefit the community and surrounding areas.  Dr. Nespory and Sheryl are very excited and happy to be a part of this growth, and this community.

When Dr. Nespory and his wife Sheryl are not working, they enjoy living in the country just south of Kearney, raising cattle and miniature donkeys.  Many grandkids keep the two of them busy year round.

Dr. Nespory's office is currently in Liberty, MO; however you can always find him at the hospital in his scrubs and of course, his cowboy boots.
