Hospice volunteers, known as Hospice Angels, assist our staff in providing support and care to our patients. Hospice Angels come from all walks of life and backgrounds to contribute their own unique talents and strengths to our program.
We offer the opportunity for our volunteers to serve in the areas where they feel they can best help make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families, including:
Office and Clerical Support
Our volunteers provide important clerical support in our Home Health office including:
- Answering phones
- Filing and organizing
- Preparing mailers
- Making copies
- Other special projects as needed
For some volunteers visiting patients in their homes or wherever they live provides a fulfilling and potentially life changing experience. These are just some of the ways our volunteers share their special talents and gifts of presence with our grateful patients and their families:
- Provide relief for a caregiver
- Read aloud from a favorite book or magazine
- Play card/board games and put together puzzles
- Listen to stories and reminisce together
- Take care of a pet
We follow our bereaved families up to one year after the passing of their loved one. Our volunteers may help with bereavement mailings, phone calls and visits. They can also assist with memorial services and our annual Tree of Life Memorial Fundraiser.
Training is provided to our volunteers in their area of interest by our professional hospice staff and supervisors.
