Welcome to Excelsior Springs Hospital

Visitor Parking

Visitors may park in the lot in front of the Hospital. Handicap and van-accessible parking is readily available. See Hospital Campus.

Visiting Hours

Specified visiting hours are encouraged to provide an environment promoting the patient’s welfare.

Generally, visiting hours are 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. We may ask that you limit the number of visitors.

Visitors entering the facility after 8:00 pm will need to enter through the Emergency Department doors.

ICU visiting hours may be limited at the discretion of the RN.

Visitor Guidelines

Some disease processes necessitate the use of special precautions before entering a patient room. A stop sign will be placed outside the door to the room to indicate that a nurse needs to advise you if items such as a mask or gown are needed to protect either the patient or you.

For everyone’s safety, please adhere to the information that is provided. Visitors are encouraged to make use of the hand sanitizer in the patient’s room.

Please do not leave children unsupervised while in the facility. Noise disturbs not only your loved one, but others as well.

It is the policy of Excelsior Springs Hospital to allow all visitors chosen by the patient (or his/her representative) to be able to enjoy “full and equal” visitation privileges consistent with the wishes of the patient (or his/her representative). Any restrictions or limitations on visitors will be enforced in order to provide an environment which promotes the patient’s welfare.

The Nursing Supervisor has the authority and responsibility to monitor the Hospital environment; therefore, any exceptions to the following rules must be approved by the Nursing Supervisor.

  1. No electrical appliances are to be brought into the facility by visitors.
  2. Children must not be left unattended.
  3. Children under the age of 12 years will not be allowed to visit in the patient’s room unless pre-approved by the Nursing Supervisor.
  4. No food or drink is allowed in the main lobby. The cafeteria is provided for this purpose.
  5. A cot is available for emergency situations, to be set up in the patient’s room (except ICU). The Nursing Supervisor must authorize this action. Cots are NOT to be used in any other location of the Hospital.
  6. Hospital furniture is not to be rearranged.
  7. Visitors are not allowed to smoke in the facility. This is a smoke-free facility.
  8. The Hospital has “open” visiting hours, but visitors may be limited at the request of the patient or discretion of the Nursing Supervisor. Examples of reasons to impose restrictions or limitations on visitors might include (but are not limited to):
  • There may be infection control issues.
  • Visitation may interfere with the care of other patients.
  • There is an existing court order restricting contact.
  • Visitors engage in disruptive, threatening, or violent behavior of any kind.
  • The patient needs rest or privacy.
  • The patient is undergoing care interventions.

Infection Prevention

Avoiding contagious diseases like the common cold, strep throat and the flu is important to everyone. Here are some easy things you can do to fight the spread of infection.

Clean your hands.

  • Handwashing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of infections.
  • Use soap and warm water. Rub your hands really well for at least 15 seconds.
  • Clean your hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizers, even if they do not look dirty. Rub the sanitizer all over your hands, especially under your nails and between your fingers, until your hands are dry.
  • Clean your hands before touching or eating food. Clean them after you use the restroom, take our the trash, change a diaper, visit someone who is ill or play with a pet.
  • In an effort to protect you, your healthcare providers will wash their hands and wear gloves during certain procedures.

Cover your mouth and nose.

  • Many diseases are spread through sneezes and coughs. When you sneeze or cough, the germs can travel three feet or more! Cover your mouth and nose to prevent the spread of infection to others.
  • Use a tissue! Keep tissues handy at home, at work and in your pocket.
  • Be sure to throw away used tissues and then clean your hands.
  • If you don’t have a tissue, cover your mouth and nose with the bend of your elbow or hands. If you use your hands, wash them right away.
