The Excelsior Springs Hospital has launched the first Family Care Series that quarterly will provide citizens an opportunity to explore the different community resources that are available as they relate to family health and wellness. This is in partnership with the SAFE (Substance Abuse Free Environments) organization that focuses on reducing substance abuse for youth. The first series was held on January 24, 2023 and provided attendees an opportunity to learn directly from the physicians who provide services for families.
Dr. Joshua Umscheid is Board Certified in General Pediatrics and Non-Operative Pediatric Orthopedics. He specializes in working with newborns and adolescents through the teenage years. His non-operative pediatric orthopedics treat sports injuries, sprains, strains, and other grown deformities, neuromuscular disorders, and uncomplicated fractures.
Also in attendance was Dr. Roshan Dasari, the hospital’s lead psychiatrist. The last several months Dr. Dasari has been busy hiring a team of psychiatrists whose schedules are already filled with local youth needing mental health services. In partnership with the Clay County Children’s Services Fund, the hospital has hired a team of 12 dedicated staff, trained in psychiatry, counseling, and therapy services to support the mental health needs in our community
Co-Coordinator Tina Cook said, “Our first Family Care Series event was a great success where an atmosphere of collaboration, integration, learning and sharing was created. The food was great, too! We are already geared up and planning the next one! Make sure you keep your eyes and ears open for our next Family Care Series event. We LOVE spending time with our community.”
The Family Care Series is an opportunity for the community to come into Excelsior Springs Hospital and engage with healthcare and community professionals and connect with one another in exploring how to best care for themselves and their families. The series will be offered quarterly as part of the ongoing monthly Health and Wellness presentations at the Excelsior Springs Community Center.
